MSV Duisburg lost their second away match in a row. At Borussia Dortmund II, the score was 0:2 (0:1) after 90 interesting minutes.
MSV Duisburg is once again moving closer to the relegation places in the 3rd division. After the 0:2 defeat at Borussia Dortmund II in Wuppertal, the air is getting thinner for the Zebras. The Meiderich side missed too many chances in the first half. BVB climbed back above the line.
MSV coach Torsten Ziegner sent his team back out on the pitch in a 4-2-3-1 system and made five changes to his starting eleven compared to the 3-0 defeat in Elversberg. Rolf Feltscher made his season debut after a long injury and replaced Joshua Bitter at right back. Caspar Jander also reported fit during the week and moved to the double six for Marlon Frey. The other changes: Moritz Stoppelkamp, Jonas Michelbrink and Marvin Senger played for Philipp König, Kolja Pusch and Tobias Fleckstein. In contrast to the 0-0 draw in Halle, Soumaila Coulibaly, Moritz Broschinski and Abdoulaye Camara started for Bjarne Pudel, Ole Pohlmann and Kolbeinn Finnson.
Feeling home for the Zebras
Over 2,000 visiting fans provided a home game atmosphere for the entire duration of the match in the Stadion am Zoo in Wuppertal, which was filled with 2,542 spectators. The game lasted just a quarter of an hour before both teams had a major chance. First, Stoppelkamp missed a fast Duisburg ball sequence with an ultimately too casual flick (6th). Adoulaye Kamara saved for the already beaten former Hertha goalkeeper Marcel Lotka (9th). On the other side, Justin Njinmah had the lead for BVB early on. Coulibaly sent the Dortmund striker wide, who outran the slow MSV defender Sebastian Mai and had a clear run. Vincent Müller, who was running out, made a strong save on the low shot (16th). The second duel also went to the MSV goalkeeper (21.).
Excitement then after 32 minutes: Duisburg demanded a penalty because Franz Pfanne had blocked an entry with his elbow in the sixteen. However, referee Felix Bickel’s whistle remained silent. Niklas Kölle (31st) and Aziz Bouhaddouz (37th) missed two more good opportunities from the left side of the sixteen in a third division match full of chances on both sides in the first half. Shortly before the break, the MSV defence was unsorted. The beneficiary in the scrum was Broschinski, who scored completely free from almost eleven metres with a low shot to give Dortmund the lead (39.). The Zebras could thank their keeper that it did not come to a direct double strike. Müller was once again on the spot against Njinmah. Duisburg went into the dressing rooms with an unnecessary deficit.
The second half started with a lot of hustle and bustle at the centre circle: Kamara went down after contact off the ball. Mai had probably got in his face. There was a scuffle because MSV keeper Müller also got involved. MSV then had the better opportunities. Bouhaddouz failed to put the ball in the net from a few metres after a corner (55.)
After that, Duisburg didn’t manage much. Just as the game was flattening out, BVB was able to strike again. Without being attacked in any way, Marco Pašalić was able to enter the penalty area after a double pass with Guille Bueno. From a slightly acute angle, the offensive man hammered the ball into the short upper corner. MSV was beaten!
While the Dortmund team regained hope in the relegation battle, the Zebras’ gap to the bottom was reduced to three points. Next Saturday, FC Viktoria Köln will be the guests at the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena. Dortmund will play SV Meppen at the same time.
