0:4 defeat! RWE suffers the next setback in the basement duel

After the 1:3 home defeat against Verl, Red-White Essen also had to accept a bitter defeat in the crisis summit at Hansa Rostock. Essen went down 0:4.

A very bitter afternoon for Rot-Weiss Essen: the basement duel between Hansa Rostock and RWE in the Ostseestadion on the third match day of the third division ended 4:0 (1:0).

In the first game since the dismissal of coach Bernd Hollerbach, Rostock took control from the outset in front of their home crowd. In the fourth minute, Nils Fröling won a race against Eric Voufack, who took Julian Eitschberger’s place in the starting lineup for Essen, and forced RWE keeper Jakob Golz to make a save.

RWE did not get into the game well at all. First, Sigurd Haugen shot wide with the outside of his foot (10th minute), then Golz had to make a second save early on when he defended a shot from Adrien Lebeau from a tight angle (12th minute). Just a few minutes later, he had to save against Haugen (15th minute) – the opening phase was clearly going in favor of the home side.

Christoph Dabrowski’s team had their first real shot on goal in the 25th minute of the game when Torben Müsel just missed the target from distance. FC Hansa then went on the offensive: Golz first saved a Jonas Dirkner shot after a corner kick (33′), and seconds later, Haugen headed over from three meters while free in the box (35′). Rostock then took a fully deserved lead in the 37th minute through Kevin Schumacher. Golz first made an outstanding save from Fröling’s shot, but the RWE goalkeeper was powerless against Schumacher’s tap-in.

But Essen also had chances before half-time. Ramien Safi shot past from a tight angle (39′), Joseph Boyamba forced Hansa goalkeeper Benjamin Uphoff to make a strong reflex save (43′). Nevertheless, Red-White went into half-time trailing 0-1.

RWE then faced a difficult second half. Essen started the second half brightly and Manuel Wintzheimer had their best chance, but the striker just missed the Rostock goal (53′).

But after that, Essen’s offense remained toothless and on the other side, keeper Golz had to save again and again, as he did in the 69th minute against Ryan Naderi. Hansa then celebrated for the second time after a corner: Dario Gebuhr rose highest and headed in the well-deserved 2-0 (77).

The final decision was made just a few moments later by substitute Tim Krohn, who capitalized on a poor pass from Jose-Enrique Rios Alonso to score the 3-0 (81′). After Robbie D’Haese was unable to continue due to a heavy challenge from Krohn, which was only penalized with a yellow card, and Essen had to end the game with a man less, Ryan Naderi scored the 4-0 final score in injury time (90.+5).
