MSV Duisburg lost their last third division match at Dynamo Dresden 0:4 (0:3). The Zebras had no chance in their last appearance.
A sold-out Rudolf Harbig Stadium, the best soccer weather and two traditional clubs. The omens for the last third division match of the current season between Dynamo Dresden and MSV Duisburg were actually good. But in sporting terms, there was not much left to play for.
The Zebras had been relegated two weeks ago, while Dynamo were still able to defend their fourth place, which entitles them to direct participation in the DFB Cup, after missing out on promotion. Dynamo won confidently 4:0 (3:0) and thus achieved their minimum target, while Duisburg bowed out of professional soccer on a weak note.
Duisburg’s interim coach Uwe Schubert brought on Alexander Esswein and Santiago Castaneda for Thomas Pledl (cruciate ligament rupture) and Marvin Knoll (yellow card suspension). The hosts put their stamp on the game early on and were quickly the more dangerous team. Paul Will scored from five meters out of a scramble to give them the lead (14′), Jakob Lemmer made it a quick one-two after a perfect pinpoint pass (15′) and failed to hit the post a little later (22′).
Heiko Scholz’s team continued to play as if unleashed and Meiderich remained a grateful opponent. Stefan Kutschke, whose contract extension was demanded by the home fans in the stands, increased the lead to 3:0 shortly before the break with a deflected shot (38′). New number one Max Braune was unable to continue after a collision with the goalscorer to make it 3-0. Vincent Müller came in. Kutschke also had to come off. Nothing more happened in the first half.
And even after the restart, only the hosts played. Lemmer’s seventh goal of the season was an easy one. He was able to net from six meters out to make it 4:0 after 51 minutes. After that, the game more or less petered out. MSV can now finally concentrate on the Regionalliga West
