1 : 1 was not enough: Bayern out of Champions League – Man City and Inter Milan are through

In the Champions League, Bayern are eliminated – after 1 : 1 against Manchester City.

In the Champions League, Bayern Munich was eliminated this Wednesday evening with a 1 : 1 against Manchester City. In order to enter the semifinals against defending champion Real Madrid, FC Bayern would have had to score at least three goals. But that was not the case. The only goal of coach Tuchel’s team – who had to leave the pitch for whining – was scored by Joshua Kimmich on a penalty kick.

Manchester City with coach Pep Guardiola will now face Real Madrid in the semifinals.

Simultaneously, Inter Milan qualified for the semifinals by beating Benfica Lisbon 3 : 3. Nicolò Barella (14th minute), Lautaro Martínez (65th) and Joaquín Correa (78th) scored the goals for the Italians, who had won the quarterfinal first leg 2-0 last week.

This means that two clubs from Milan: AC Milan and Inter Milan are in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Criticism of Bayern fans

In Munich, the criticism of the fans also became clear. “Goals may be missed – values of the club not! Question leadership policy!” was written on a large poster in the Südkurve.

This message is seen as anger at sports director Hasan Salihamidzic and CEO Oliver Kahn, who failed to achieve the hoped-for turnaround with the coaching change from Julian Nagelsmann to Thomas Tuchel. For Bayern, it’s all about the championship after the elimination in the DFP Cup and the Champions League.
