1. FC Köln goes to appeal and sends in documents on Monday

As announced, Bundesliga soccer team 1. FC Köln will take legal action against the transfer ban imposed by soccer’s world governing body FIFA and file an appeal.

Asked when the documents will be submitted to the international sports court Cas, FC managing director Christian Keller said after the match against FSV Mainz 05: “On Monday.” The deadline is April 20.

FIFA had issued a transfer ban for two transfer periods against the Cologne team at the end of March. The reason for the FIFA penalty is a dispute between six-time Slovenian champion Olimpija Ljubljana and the Cologne club over the signing of 17-year-old junior striker Jaka Cuber Potocnik in January 2022.

FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber found the Cologne side guilty of unjustified breach of contract and inciting breach of contract. The player – with FC jointly liable – must also pay 51,750 euros to Ljubljana. Young talent Potocnik has also been banned for an additional four months. As a first step, the Bundesliga club would like to obtain a provisional suspension of the verdict.
