There have been many big wins in the five Regionalliga divisions. Two stories involving Rot-Weiss Essen can be found in the top 10.
As one of the first leagues, the five regional leagues are now slowly starting their new season. Once again, the championship, promotion, and possibly one or two new records are at stake. In the 13 years since the five-tier regional league was established, quite a few have already been set. Among them are the highest victories.
Rot-Weiss Essen is right up there at the top. In the 2021/22 promotion season, still under coach Christian Neidhart, RWE celebrated an 11-0 victory on matchday 11 at KFC Uerdingen. The list of goal scorers is likely to bring back some fond memories for RWE fans even today.
Simon Engelmann and Oguzhan Kefkir each scored three times. Cedric Harenbrock, Felix Bastians, Sandro Plechaty, Erolind Krasniqi, and Zlatko Janjic also contributed one goal each. It was the last double-digit victory in the five regional leagues to date.
But a current RWE player also has a record victory to remember. Ahmet Arslan scored a hat-trick for Hamburger SV’s second team in a 10-0 win over FT Braunschweig in the 2014/15 season. It was the first four-digit victory since the introduction of the five Regionalliga divisions.
However, Rot-Weiss Essen missed out on the highest Regionalliga victory of all time by two goals. That honor went to FC Augsburg II in the 2016/17 season in the Bavarian Regionalliga. The final score was 12-0 against SV Seligenporten. The match winner was clearly Marco Richter, who now plays for FSV Mainz 05. He scored seven times.
