MSV Duisburg go into the Christmas break with a 1-1 draw against Fortuna Sittard.
MSV Duisburg ended their third and final test match of the year with a draw. The score against Fortuna Sittard from the Netherlands was 1:1 (0:0) after 90 minutes. After taking the lead, the team equalised shortly before the end.
Coach Torsten Ziegler had to start the game with a severely depleted team. Sebastian Mai, Moritz Stoppelkamp and Philipp König were absent due to illness, as were Aziz Bouhaddouz, Joshua Bitter and Chinedu Ekene. Alaa Bakir, who is still in rehabilitation training, did not play in the match.
Seven MSV absentees
Shortly before kick-off, keeper Vincent Müller had to pull out with muscular problems. Maximilian Braune replaced him between the posts and saw both teams play a fast-paced opening minute. MSV attacked the visitors early in the build-up to the game, but they were able to break free time and again.
Despite the open visors of both teams, goals were scarce. Sittard had the first real chance. A header from a free kick was saved by Braune (37th minute). By halftime, the Dutch were more superior and had more chances in front of the Duisburg goal, but failed to score against the MSV keeper (41st minute).
The first quarter of an hour after the break belonged to Duisburg, who came out of the dressing room much more active. However, they either failed to make the last pass or the opponent got a leg in between, as in the case of a shot by Benjamin Girth (59th).
Thereupon, the game became more balanced again. The visitors had two chances, but again Braune was on the spot (74., 77.). On the other side, substitute Leroy Kwadwo broke through and crossed to striker Benjamin Girth, who only had to push in the ball (84th). In the end, however, the victory came to nothing, as Sittard equalised almost at the final whistle through Namory Cisse (90th minute).
