15 years at MSV – Wuppertal brings in “absolute leading player”

Wuppertaler SV is pressing ahead with its personnel planning. Shortly before the start of preparations, the regional league club’s new defense is in place.

Just one day before the start of pre-season preparations, regional league club Wuppertaler SV presented its next new signing on Saturday (June 22). In doing so, WSV is helping itself to the competition.

Vincent Gembalies is a defender from the reserves of SC Paderborn, who, like Wuppertal, play in the Regionalliga West. The 24-year-old played 22 games there last season, 21 of which were in the starting eleven, and will be on the Wuppertal pitch at the start of preparations.

“Vincent Gembalies is a strong tackler and has a great CV. He has already made appearances in the 2nd and 3rd division and is an absolute leader,” said sporting director Gaetano Manno, delighted with the commitment. “We are delighted that he has decided to join us. He’s at a great age and I’m delighted that he’s now with us. With him, we have a strong position in our defensive planning.”

At the age of eight, Gembalies, who was born in Oberhausen, joined the MSV Duisburg youth team. He also took his first steps in men’s soccer with the Meiderichern club, making his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2018/19 season and making 65 appearances in the 3rd division after relegation. After 15 years with Duisburg, he then moved to East Westphalia last summer.

The central defender is also looking forward to his time in the Bergisches Land: “I’m really looking forward to the new challenge at Wuppertaler SV and can’t wait to get out on the pitch and play in front of our fans in this fantastic stadium.”
