16 games in the Bundesliga – MSV Duisburg is interested in this striker

MSV Duisburg has gotten off to a dream start: three games, three wins – MSV leads the third division table. And Dietmar Hirsch still wants reinforcements.

Just one day after their 2-1 victory over SSV Ulm 1846, MSV Duisburg announced a new signing. Omer Hanin is joining the team as goalkeeper, completing the Zebras’ trio of keepers.

But that’s not all in terms of new signings. As Dietmar Hirsch explained once again at the press conference before the Ulm game: “We have a squad in which everyone can have justified hopes of playing. I’m already satisfied with that. But we’ve also always said that we’d like to do something in the offensive area. We have two center forwards and are looking to see what else we can add, whether powerful or agile—we’ll see. If the squad stays together, it won’t be the end of the world. But it would be nice if someone else joined us.”

It’s quite possible that the MSV coach’s wish will be granted in the coming week. Forecasting has learned that MSV Duisburg is interested in Florian Dietz. RS knows that talks have already been held with the 27-year-old striker from 1. FC Köln. According to RS information, MSV is offering Dietz a contract until June 30, 2027.

Dietz still has a contract with the Bundesliga club, for which he has played 16 games in the 1st Bundesliga, until the summer of 2026 – but he no longer plays a role at “Effzeh” and is officially allowed to negotiate with other clubs. He has been released to look for a new club.

In January 2025, MSV’s current league rival Rot-Weiss Essen had been courting Dietz. However, after much deliberation, he decided to move to Altach in Austria, as reported by Forecasting. He scored two goals in seven appearances there. Now, after six months, he is looking for a new challenge. Perhaps he will find it at MSV Duisburg.

Back to Dietz: He has been under contract with 1. FC Köln since summer 2021. The center forward moved from SpVgg Unterhaching to the U21 team at that time. With 13 goals in the 2021/22 season, the striker recommended himself for the Bundesliga team and signed his first professional contract with FC in May 2022. Dietz scored his first goal in the 2022/23 season in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier against Fehervar FC. He also scored in the 4-2 home win against 1. FC Slovacko after the team successfully qualified for the group stage, and in the Bundesliga in the 2-2 draw in Leipzig, before suffering a serious knee injury in the home game against Hoffenheim at the end of October 2022, which ruled him out for almost a year. In the 2024/2025 season, he made four appearances before being loaned to Altach in January 2025.
