18-year-old striker causes a stir, professional clubs are said to be interested

Oberligist TSV Meerbusch is in eleventh place in the table after eleven games. The most successful scorer is 18-year-old Bojan Potnar.

In the Oberliga Niederrhein, the strike duo of Arne Wessels and Conor Tönnies have been causing a stir since the start of the season. The two young attackers from SpVg Schonnebeck have already scored 23 goals together this season, with Wessels even leading the scoring charts with 17 goals.

However, there is another 18-year-old who has had a strong season so far: we are talking about Bojan Potnar. The TSV Meerbusch striker has already scored nine times in 14 competitive games, including six goals in the Oberliga. Potnar, who is studying business, has only been playing for TSV Meerbusch since this season.

Previously, he played for VfB Hilden. As a youth, Potnar also trained at Hafenstraße in Essen for half a year. In the second half of the 2023/24 season, he scored five goals in twelve U19 Niederrheinliga games for Rot-Weiss Essen.

In preparation for his first real Oberliga season in Meerbusch, the 18-year-old was coached for ten days in the summer by Armin Reutershahn, who most recently served as Edin Terzic’s assistant coach. Reutershahn’s son plays in the youth team in Meerbusch. Potnar’s agent Musa Dedeeli is very satisfied with the development of his protégé.

“I discovered him in the summer in a U-game against Unterrath. Together with his parents, we have become a great team. Bojan is an extremely ambitious boy who works hard on himself. With his height of 1.92 meters and his athleticism, he is a difference-maker who can lock the balls very well. He also has a very strong left foot. Coach Samir Sisic also thinks highly of him. In short, Bojan is a classic nine, which is hard to find these days,” explains Dedeeli in an interview with Forecasting.

Meerbusch is the first point of contact, that’s for sure. The next development step must be jointly desired and coordinated. Let’s see where the journey takes us.

As RS has learned, Potnar has played himself into the spotlight with his performances and has aroused some interest. There are already said to be initial inquiries from German professional clubs and Croatian first division clubs. However, it is still unclear where the talented striker, whose contract in Meerbusch expires at the end of the season, will go. His agent also leaves the future open:

“Bojan has the potential to make it as a professional. He’s very down to earth and always comes to me for tips on what he still needs to work on. Meerbusch is the first point of contact, that’s clear. The next step in his development has to be mutually desired and coordinated. We’ll see where the journey takes us.”
