20 games in the Regionalliga West – SV Scherpenberg strengthen their squad

SV Scherpenberg have signed the next player who was still playing in the Oberliga Niederrhein during the first half of the season.

After Marcio Blank, who comes from the bankrupt club SV Straelen, Marcel Kretschmer (VfB Homberg) is also moving from the Oberliga Niederrhein to the Landesliga to join SV Scherpenberg.

Sven Schützek, who will officially take up the role of sporting director for the club from Moers on July 1, wrapped up the transfer. “I also emphasized that I am already looking for reinforcements for Scherpenberg. And Marcel is such a reinforcement. You could also say that the boy is an anticipation of the summer,” Schützek, who is currently still the coach at Spielvereinigung Sterkrade-Nord, told Forecasting.

Kretschmer had only moved to VfB Homberg in the summer. However, he was unable to establish himself at Duisburg’s Rhine dike. The 21-year-old midfielder made twelve appearances, but only played for 213 minutes and was never in the starting lineup. At least he scored in the 4-0 win against SV Sonsbeck on matchday nine.

In total, the Krefeld-born player has made 31 Oberliga and 20 Regionalliga appearances in his career so far – in the KFC Uerdingen jersey.

“Marcel is a young and ambitious player who has now had a weaker first half of the season. He can now regain his self-confidence in Scherpenberg. We know about his great potential and he will definitely strengthen the squad,” emphasizes Schützek.

SV Scherpenberg is in eighth place with 33 points from 21 games. They are currently eight points behind one of the two promotion places. Scherpenberg is now in its fourth year of trying to get into the Oberliga. The club is considered to be in a strong financial position. However, coach Ralf Gemmer has not yet managed to realize the Oberliga in Moers. With the support of the new sports director Schützek, this should be possible from summer 2024 – the first transfer in the person of Marcel Kretschmer definitely makes people sit up and take notice.
