2024/25 still Regionalliga West – Dortmund club files for bankruptcy

Westfalen Oberliga club Türkspor Dortmund is filing for bankruptcy. After the canceled 2024/25 season, the next season is also in chaos.

As Oberliga Westfalen representative Türkspor Dortmund announced on Thursday, February 5, the 2025/26 season will not be running smoothly either. On the contrary, the club is filing for bankruptcy and is to be restructured.

This is reminiscent of the previous season. In 2024/25, Türkspor Dortmund ended its first Regionalliga season in the club’s history after 24 match days and withdrew from competition. “This decision was not an easy one, but it was inevitable. Financial difficulties, a lack of support, and our sporting situation made it impossible to continue,” said the club in March 2025, which had played its home games first at the IMS Arena of SSVg Velbert and then at the Ischelandstadion in Hagen. Now Dortmund wants to continue playing, but faces a nine-point deduction. That would catapult Türkspor from tenth place to 17th place, which would mean relegation. Instead of 23 points, Türkspor Dortmund would then only have 14 to its name. “The Türkspor Dortmund 2000 e.V. club is to be restructured. Following the club’s insolvency filing, the intention is now to initiate its restructuring as part of an insolvency plan procedure,” said the Dortmund club.

The Dortmund District Court has appointed experienced insolvency administrator Markus Birkmann from the law firm BBL as provisional insolvency administrator. According to the club, Birkmann expressed a positive view of the restructuring prospects in an initial meeting: “The aim of this process is to turn the club, which appears to be fundamentally sound financially, around. With combined forces, we should be able to achieve this goal.”

Suddenly, Rot Weiss Ahlen would be one of Dortmund’s pursuers. The traditional club from the Werse ranks second to last in the Oberliga Westfalen with just ten points. Behind them is TuS Ennepetal with nine points.

If Türkspor Dortmund were to be relegated to the Westfalenliga, it would be their second relegation in a year. A bitter outcome for the club, which could still manage to stay up even after a possible points deduction.
