SC Preußen Münster continues to go from victory to victory. After the 4:0 win against Alemannia Aachen, the Eagles also won 2:1 at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
SC Preußen Münster also won the next top match: At Borussia Mönchengladbach II, the Münsterlanders celebrated a 2-1 away victory in front of 1,248 spectators, including around 1,000 SCP fans.
Preußen Münster got off to a strong start at the Grenzlandstadion: After just two minutes, a cross from the visitors from the left fell into the Gladbach defence’s five-metre area. The Gladbach defence was unable to adequately clear the ball and it fell to the feet of Yassine Bouchama, who did not take long to volley in from 17 minutes, but just missed the goal.
And the league leaders kept up the offensive pressure. A corner from Marc Lorenz (10th) came to the first post, where Dennis Grote let the ball slip over his head and thus dangerously extended it. Maximilian Brüll in the Jungfohlen goal, however, was on the spot.
And then, out of nowhere, Gladbach had their first big chance – and what a chance it was! The spectators almost saw the goal of the year in the Regionalliga West. The SCP lost the ball in the offensive, Gladbach switched quickly, Per Lockl drove the ball forward and simply took a shot from the middle line. He had seen that Maximilian Schulze Niehues was standing very far in front of his own box. Lockl’s long shot went just over the Münster goal. That was when the Eagle Bearers were very lucky.
The home side became stronger by the minute – and were rewarded for their efforts in the 28th minute: Ryan Don Naderi received the ball at the top and converted in front of Schulze Niehues to give Gladbach a 1:0 lead.
The SCP’s answer followed promptly. Almost with the first attack after the goal, the visitors equalised. Captain Lorenz crossed perfectly from the right to the head of Nicolai Remberg, who jumped highest and scored with a powerful header to equalise 1:1 (30.).
SCP came back from the dressing room with a lot of pressure and tempo. Shortly after the restart, Gerrit Wegkamp gave the Eagles the lead. Henok Teklab was able to assert himself on the right side and crossed into the middle to Wegkamp, who headed in – 2:1 (50th). Ten minutes later Wegkamp (60.) headed a free-standing ball into the arms of Brüll. There would have been more in it.
There was not much more from Gladbach in the second half. Münster were closer to 3:1 than Borussia to a 2:2 draw.
Dennis Grote (80th) did everything right with his run to the top and got a header from close range, but Brüll scraped the ball off the line.
In the end, SC Preußen Münster won 2-1 away from home. After Aachen, the league leaders also won the next top match and remain on course for the Third Division with 13 games to go, nine points ahead of second place, occupied by Wuppertaler SV.
