Third division football club SV Wehen Wiesbaden will face BVB’s U23 on Monday evening. New signing Suheyel Najar is not yet involved.
In May, Fortuna Cologne announced the departure of their best player: Suheyel Najar moved from Südstadt to third-division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden. With nine goals and 20 assists, the 26-year-old was the top scorer of the past Regionalliga West season.
Although the summer preparation for his new club has come to an end, Najar is still waiting for his first appearance for Hessen. There is a reason for this. In his last game for Fortuna Cologne – in the Mittelrheinpokal final against Viktoria Köln (0:2) – the noble technician injured himself and tore his inner and outer ligaments (3 of 5 ligaments are torn). Najar has been struggling with this injury for over nine weeks.
The offensive player is currently working hard for his comeback, as he revealed in an interview with RevierSport: “I’m doing my rehab at the medical centre and also working with our fitness trainers on the pitch. That means that I do the warm-up training with the team and then do individual athletic and conditioning training. Due to the professional conditions in and around the club, all the prerequisites are there for a complete recovery and to become an important part of the team after the injury. That’s also my goal. “
I am well on my way and would like to train fully with the team in the first week of August. The anticipation is great and I’m really up for getting a foothold in the 3rd division. The goal with the team is simple: get lots of points and win matches.
Suheyel Najar
The Cologne native can’t wait to finally get back on the pitch and get his first minutes for coach Markus Kauczinski’s team. “I’m well on my way and want to train fully with the team in the first week of August. The anticipation is great and I’m really up for gaining a foothold in the 3. Liga. The goal with the team is simple: get a lot of points and win. Personally, I find it difficult to talk about promotion right from the start, because there is simply too much competition in the league. But we have a very homogeneous and well-coordinated squad with high quality. I think there is a lot in it for us,” said the newcomer.
His team will start the new third league season on Monday evening (7 p.m.) with a home match against Borussia Dortmund’s U23. Najar is confident, but also aware of the difficulty of the task: “BVB is technically adept and perfectly trained tactically. We saw in the analysis that they have many position changes in the game. The team tries to find a lot of playful solutions. We want to challenge the opponent and have to show these guys that there is nothing for them in Wiesbaden. That is our mission. I will support my team from the stands. “
