The second round of the DFB Women’s Cup has been drawn. VfL Bochum is looking forward to a hot derby against SGS Essen.
The DFB Women’s Cup started with 48 teams in the 1st round. All twelve teams from the previous season of the Women’s Bundesliga as well as the four best-placed teams from the 2nd Women’s Bundesliga from the previous season receive a bye and do not enter the competition until the second round.
Now the first round is over and the second draw has been made. And from the district’s point of view, there are two very interesting matches in this round. Women’s regional league team VfL Bochum (VfL won 3:2 after extra time against Fortuna Köln in the first round) will meet Bundesliga team SGS Essen – a real derby.
And Bundesliga side MSV Duisburg must travel to Bielefeld’s Arminia. Series winner and defending champion VfL WOlfsburg must travel to Bundesliga relegated Turbine Potsdam. This was the result of the draw, which was made by “Losfee” Marie-Louise Eta, co-coach of the U19 juniors of Union Berlin.
The second round will be played between 9 and 11 September 2023. The round of 16 matches will be played between 25 and 26 November 2023. The quarter-finals will follow between 5 and 7 March 2024, before the remaining four teams are scheduled for the semi-finals on 30 and 31 March 2024. The final will be played on 9 May 2024 (Ascension Day) at the RheinEnergieSTADION in Cologne.
