This record, even if it comes from Hamburg, is worth reporting. Because a former Bundesliga professional shoots the upper league there in the ground.
“We can’t even put into words how proud this makes us,” Dassendorf’s sporting director Jan Schönteich told the “Hamburger Abendblatt” when TuS signed Martin Harnik in October 2020.
The ex-Bundesliga professional has not disappointed those responsible at TuS Dassendorf either. Harnik now scores 80 goals (plus 20 assists) for the Hamburg Oberliga club – and that in just 59 games!
And even more: since a few days, the 35-year-old Harnik, who is Dassendorf captain, has set a new record. With his three-pack in the 5:2 win against SC Victoria Hamburg and now 43 goals in 30 games this season, he is the new record holder in the Hanseatic city’s highest division. He has made history in Hamburg amateur soccer.
For ex-Bundesliga striker Harnik has succeeded in surpassing the age-old record of Peter Hartwig, who scored 41 goals in the 1981/1982 season for Hummelsbütteler SV, which has since disappeared into oblivion.
“It makes me happy, of course. It’s something great to break a record that has stood for so long. And now it’s a matter of extending it,” the 68-time Austrian international told “NDR.”
With three match days to go, TuS Dassendorf is in second place in the Hamburg Oberliga. They are just three points behind the leaders TSV Sasel. Perhaps promotion to the Regionalliga Nord is still possible. With this Martin Harnik in gala form, anything seems possible. He told NDR: “The next goal now is to keep scoring goals. That’s fun, and it never stops.” That’s something that those responsible at TuS Dassendorf will also be very happy to hear.
