FC 08 Homburg have all the money they need after reaching the last sixteen of the DFB Cup. And: The Regionalliga-Südwest club is now making a new signing.
FC 08 Homburg, who received a bonus of around 860,000 euros after reaching the DFB Cup round of 16, have once again become active on the transfer market and have signed central defender Laurin von Piechowski. The 29-year-old, who played for SV 07 Elversberg until the summer, has signed a contract until June 2024.
The central defender, who played for SV 07 Elversberg in the 3rd division until the summer, has signed a contract until June 2024.
Von Piechowski initially played for Lichterfelder FC Berlin, BFC Preussen, FC Hertha 03 Zehlendorf and SV Babelsberg 03 as a youth player in his home country. The 29-year-old was promoted to the first team in the Regionalliga Nordost in the summer of 2013, where he made 96 league appearances over the years.
In July 2017, the central defender joined Chemnitzer FC in the 3rd division. At the end of the season, the Berlin native moved to SV Rödinghausen in the Regionalliga West, with whom he celebrated the championship in 2019/20 and made 31 appearances. In August 2020, the 29-year-old joined SV 07 Elversberg. With the Saarland side, von Piechowski achieved promotion to the 3rd division in 2022 and to the 2nd Bundesliga in the summer of 2023
Von Piechowski has played 35 games in the 3rd division so far. In the Regionalliga, the 29-year-old has made 184 appearances across all divisions.
“Due to the current personnel shortages in defense, we have decided to strengthen this position. In Laurin, we have found a player who fits our profile perfectly. He already knows the league very well and was an important part of Elversberg. The signing of Laurin gives us an additional option in central defense, so that we also have two players in this position in the long term,” said Homburg head coach Danny Schwarz about the new signing.
“I’m very happy to be back in Saarland. My goal is to contribute to a hopefully successful season here in Homburg,” says von Piechowski, looking forward to his future in Homburg.
In the future, in the first week of December, the new signing will also be able to enjoy the DFB Cup round of 16. Homburg, who have so far eliminated Bundesliga club SV Darmstadt and second division side Greuther Fürth, will then host second division leaders FC St. Pauli.
