4:1 against FC Kray – “The strangest thing I’ve ever seen”

On match day 9 of the Landesliga, Group 2, SC Werden-Heidhausen won 4:1 (2:1) against FC Kray. For coach Danny Konietzko, it was an unusual game.

In the Essen derby on match day 9 of the Landesliga Group 2, SC Werden-Heidhausen defeated FC Kray 4-1 (2-1). Coach Danny Konietzko was surprised by Kray’s style of play. Jacob Mertes gave Werden-Heidhausen the lead in the 20th minute with a penalty kick. Djibril Camara equalized for Kray in the 34th minute, but Vladimilson Mumbepia restored the visitors’ lead in the 41st minute.

The second half was initially evenly balanced, but Kray increasingly took risks in order to equalize. In the closing stages, the South Essen team took advantage of the space available and added two more goals, through Antoine Feld (81st minute) and Mertes (90th minute) with a deflected free kick.

“The team did a great job, from the players and the guys who came on to the spectators who supported us endlessly,” Konietzko summed up after the second win in a row. “We showed commitment and passion, and that’s what defines us. Ultimately, it was a well-deserved victory for us.”

The coach also explained that his team’s “basic tactical approach” had worked perfectly and expressed his surprise at the opponent’s tactical strategy.

It was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen, with almost every opening move being played long up front.

“Kray basically just tried long balls, which is something I’ve never seen before in my entire coaching career,” said Konietzko, expressing his surprise. “That was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen, with almost every opening pass being hit long forward. Of course, they have a keeper in Raphael Koczor who plays huge long balls, but the way we defended against them was outstanding.”

The win saw Werden-Heidhausen move past FC Kray in the table and now have 12 points after nine games. The record is balanced with a total of three wins, three draws, and three losses. “We’re enjoying the three points because they’re extremely important to us,” explained Konietzko. “The team is really happy and they deserve to go to Oktoberfest on Saturday.”
