4:1! Bocholt leaves ETB no chance and advances to the quarter-finals

1. FC Bocholt are through to the quarter-finals of the Lower Rhine Cup after a 4-1 win at Oberliga side ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen.

The quarter-finals of the Lower Rhine Cup are almost complete. 1. FC Bocholt, who play in the Regionalliga, are the seventh team to reach the last eight, after a comfortable 4-1 win at Oberliga side ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen.

The team of coach Sunay Acar, who was able to celebrate his first victory for his new club, made it clear from the outset. Thomas Gösweiner put FCB in the lead after just nine minutes. ETB goalkeeper Ryan Valentine was still on the powerful header, but could no longer prevent the impact.

Jan Wellers increased to 2-0 a little later – and how. From 30 meters out, he unleashed a shot that hit the back of the net (14th minute). The early preliminary decision was then made by a nasty mistake by the ETB keeper, who dribbled in his own penalty area and carelessly played the ball to Bogdan Shubin, who only had to push it into the empty goal (35th minute).

Only three minutes later, things went from bad to worse for Essen. After a corner by Bocholt captain Jan Holldack, Gösweiner rose highest and scored a brace (38′). The half-time score was already 0:4 from the perspective of coach Damian Apfeld’s team, who was facing a potential debacle.

But it didn’t come to that, because Bocholt took several gears out in the second half and spared important players for the upcoming league game against FC Gütersloh. So the ETB still got its consolation goal in the 75th minute: Nico Bosnjak scored from 20 meters into the left corner to make it 1-4. That was also the final score.

The last quarter-finalist will be determined next week. Wuppertal SV, who are currently looking for a coach after the dismissal of René Klingbeil, will host FC Kray (October 30, 7:30 p.m.).
