5-0 in friendly against Oberliga side – second string also stays in the flow

Ahead of their away game at SSV Ulm, MSV Duisburg tested themselves in a friendly against SpVg Schonnebeck. A mixed team of U19s and professionals beat the Oberliga side 5-0.

After the 2-0 home win over SSV Jahn Regensburg, some of the pros had a double training session on Tuesday (January 27). After the morning session, MSV Duisburg scheduled an additional friendly match against Oberliga club SpVg Schonnebeck in the evening, which the “Zebras” won 5-0.

Dietmar Hirsch’s team took to the field with a mixed squad of players from the U19 team and players who see less action in the third division. Dennis Borkowski had the first big chance in the fourth minute. After dribbling into the penalty area, the winger only hit the left post. A little later, Tim Heike scored what would have been the 1-0, but the flag went up quickly – offside (11th minute).

It took some time for the visitors to get their first offensive action. In the 21st minute, Noah Kloth extended a corner kick in a very dangerous way towards the far post, where Heike was finally able to clear. Subsequently, it was also the striker who had the best chances for MSV, but he failed first with a free kick (27th minute) and then shortly before half-time against Lukas Lingk, who was able to knock the ball away from his foot.

The Zebras dominated the game, but lacked pace and determination in their own actions. This was to change in the second half. After a few minutes, Thilo Töpken won a penalty in a duel with Dacain Baraza, which Borkowski converted confidently (51′).

However, it took some time for MSV to really threaten the opponent’s goal. It was only in the final quarter of an hour that the third division leaders’ offense came to life. Andy Visser scored with a spectacular shot from just under 15 meters, opening the floodgates. On the Schonnebeck side, exhaustion was evident, and as a result, the Oberliga team could no longer keep up with the pace of Jan-Simon Symalla, who came into the game after an hour. It was the young star who ran alone towards Julian Zelenkov twice and remained cool (83rd, 89th). He was also responsible for the penultimate action of the game. Kevin Kehrmann left his elbow in during a duel with Symalla and was penalized with another penalty. Florian Krüger grabbed the ball and converted it just as confidently as Borkowski had done before.

The game ended 5-0 for Duisburg, who have already warmed up for the game in Ulm. Schonnebeck will return to Oberliga action at the weekend and can look forward to a derby against Adler Union Frintrop.
