Tom Meurer turns his back on TSV Meerbusch and joins the regional league team Holzheimer SG. The new signing from the Oberliga Niederrhein is a real coup for the club.
“We’re delighted that Tom will be joining us in the summer. He gives us a left-footed player in central defense. Tom in particular gives us several options. At 25, he has experience and is still capable of development. Together, we’re stepping on the gas,” said the club. They introduced Meurer in a short clip on Instagram, in which he enters the sports facility and finds his jersey in the dressing room.
Meurer joined the club in the summer of 2022 from FC Wegberg-Beeck, which is now second-last in the Oberliga Niederrhein. The 25-year-old central defender has also played for Wuppertaler SV in his career, where he was trained as a youth player, just like at Borussia Mönchengladbach. His CV includes 57 appearances in the Regionalliga West.
In addition to Meurer, Holzheimer SG also brought back 26-year-old striker Yannick Joosten from league rivals VfL Jüchen-Garzweiler. He has scored 60 times and set up a further 49 goals in 124 regional league games to date
“We are happy that Yannick is coming back to HSG. The concept and what we have planned for the next few years has convinced Yannick. He will be a cornerstone for the future here. We have a young squad next year too. That’s why we need his experience and spirit for our game,” he said.
