VfB Lübeck have brought an experienced man to their home Lohmühle for the upcoming third league season.
VfB Lübeck have strengthened their midfield for the upcoming third league season with a large portion of experience. Ulrich Taffertshofer moves to the Lohmühle from future league rivals FC Erzgebirge Aue. The 31-year-old signed a two-year contract with VfB until 30 June 2025.
VfB sports director Sebastian Harms says: “With Ulrich, we are gaining a player for us who stands for attributes that have always been at the core of football at Lohmühle. We are convinced that he will play a leading role with his experience. His strong mentality and willingness to work hard, coupled with his enormous strength in tackling, will do our team good in addition to his footballing skills. He knows exactly what it takes to win games in the 3rd division. We are very happy to have convinced a player of his quality of our way and VfB.”
Taffertshofer, who comes from Abertshausen in Upper Bavaria, was trained as a young player for the Munich Lions after footballing beginnings in Söchering, Murnau and Starnberg.
At TSV 1860, he was part of the squad of the then Regionalliga U23, before the defensive midfielder first landed in the north at VfL Osnabrück via the stations Wacker Burghausen and SpVgg Unterhaching. In the previous year, he moved to Erzgebirge Aue. While he succeeded with Unterhaching in 2017 in gaining promotion to the 3rd division, he celebrated the jump to the 2nd Bundesliga two years later at Osnabrück. In Unterhaching, Osnabrück and Aue, the midfielder was also captain of his teams at times. In total, Taffertshofer has made 58 Second League, 143 Third League and 96 Regional League appearances.
“In the very good talks with Sebastian Harms and Lukas Pfeiffer, I sensed right from the start that VfB was counting on me. That fits in well with my ambitions of wanting to get back to the years before last season, when I was able to give my teams a lot as a regular player, I believe. In addition, I am very excited about the Lohmühle, which I have not yet experienced, but to which my style of play could fit well. Together, the goal is to take as much of the promotion euphoria with us as possible and to play an awesome season with the team,” says Taffertshofer.
