59-time first division player signs

VfB Homberg has made its first winter signing. The new man comes from a league rival.

Frank Hildebrandt, sporting director of VfB Homberg, has signed a new player for the Duisburg-based Oberliga side: Konstantinos Moulas comes to the Rhine dyke from league rivals FSV Duisburg.

The 25-year-old centre-back is a Greek citizen and has also played for SC Düsseldorf-West and VfB 03 Hilden in the Oberliga Niederrhein. In the previous season, he was a regular for FSV Duisburg, but in the current season he has only played in four matches for the team at the bottom of the table due to injury. In total, the 1.85 metre tall Moulas brings with him experience of 59 Oberliga games.

“Kostas is experienced and a really good Oberliga defender. We are happy that this has worked out,” says Hildebrandt. Incidentally, Moulas will meet two former FSV team-mates, Ren Ishizaki and Sakaki Ota, who are now also under contract with VfB Homberg.

The team that was relegated from the Regionalliga is currently also in a relegation spot in the Oberliga Niederrhein and is naturally hoping for a much better second series. “We have to improve and I am confident that we will do so,” Hildebrandt emphasises.

With 34 goals conceded in only 20 games, Homberg coach Stefan Janßen’s team also has one of the worse defensive lines in the Oberliga Niederrhein. Of course, the new centre-back Moulas should also give the VfB defence more stability.

On 5 February (3 p.m.), the Homberg side, who were recently runners-up in the 35th Duisburg Indoor City Championship, will be back in action for league points with a home match against Germania Ratingen.
