In the Regionalliga Nordost, a coach was fired on Tuesday evening (October 8th) – the fourth release of the 2024/2025 season.
1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig is leading the way in the Regionalliga Nordost. The “Loksche” took 29 out of a possible 33 points. Their closest rival, Carl Zeiss Jena, is already seven points behind Leipzig.
And other clubs that started the season with high ambitions are even further behind. This also includes Greifswalder FC. Now the consequences have followed. 16 points from eleven games and seventh place are not enough for the GFC board.
Greifswalder FC has relieved head coach Lars Fuchs, who played 60 games in the second division (Editor’s note: for Eintracht Braunschweig, VfL Osnabrück, 1. FC Magdeburg), and assistant coach René Lange of their duties with immediate effect. This was decided by the club’s committees on Tuesday after an intensive analysis of the sporting situation. Until a successor is found, athletic trainer Daniel Rellmann and goalkeeping coach Christian Person will lead the team training on an interim basis.
Heiko Jaap, CEO of Greifswalder FC, explained: “The decision was really not easy for us, because Fuchser and Rinne have given their all for the club every day. Over the past year and a half, “Fuchser” has developed the team into an established team in the Regionalliga Nordost. Unfortunately, there were only a few convincing games this season. The results have also not been good recently, which is why we felt compelled to act. We thank them both for their work at Greifswalder FC and wish them all the best for the future.”
Fuchs signed with Greifswalder FC in April 2023 and managed to save the team from relegation in the remaining season of the Regionalliga Nordost. In the second year, the GFC played a strong season under the 42-year-old, just missing out on promotion to the 3rd division and also winning the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Cup.
Before Greifswald, Christian Tiffert’s Chemnitzer FC, Andreas Heraf’s BFC Dynamo and Dennis Kutrieb’s Viktoria Berlin had already parted ways.
