MSV Duisburg suffered a 0-1 defeat at SSV Ulm on February 1, 2026. But the Zebras may still gain a new player in the next few hours. No, Dietmar Hirsch, coach of MSV Duisburg, could not be satisfied with the performance of his professionals. In the first half, MSV was hardly effective, did not play compactly enough, and lacked the necessary aggressiveness. They were not effective on set pieces. “That’s what has set us apart in recent games. We deserved to lose and were at least one goal worse,“ Hirsch explained after the game. Even after the break, the picture changed only slightly. Ulm had more and significantly better chances overall, while Duisburg hardly made any impact going forward. ”We had one or two half-chances, but basically only one real shot on goal,” said the MSV coach.
One man who could change this in the future and make the Zebras even more dangerous in the opponent’s half is Dominik Kother. As Forecasting learned on Sunday evening (February 1), MSV officials led by managing director Michael Preetz are in the final stages of a transfer for the left winger, who is currently under contract with Dynamo Dresden (until 2027).
This transfer could still go ahead because, in the last 48 hours, Austrian first division club Rapid Vienna has decided not to sign Kother after all. The 25-year-old, who has only made twelve appearances (one goal) in a total of 447 minutes of play in Dresden this season, is determined to leave Dynamo.
Kother, who has played for Karlsruher SC, SSV Jahn Regensburg, Waldhof Mannheim, and Dynamo Dresden during his career to date, would bring a wealth of experience to the Ruhr region. His statistics are impressive: 95 third division games (22 goals, 16 assists), 67 second division games (7, 3), plus two relegation matches (2, 2) to stay in the league with Regensburg. Kother had his best spell at SSV Jahn. In Regensburg, he scored 14 goals and provided 16 assists in 59 games. In a few hours’ time, he could be pulling on the jersey of Regensburg’s league rivals MSV Duisburg.
