SSVg Velbert isn’t done yet: the next addition is on board for the relegation battle in the Regionalliga West.
SSVg Velbert has secured another winter transfer. Oguzcan Büyükarslan from Essen is joining SSVg from Borussia Mönchengladbach II. The 22-year-old can expect a tough relegation battle there. After all, SSvg Velbert is bottom of the Regionalliga West with just eight points.
“Oggy has been on our radar for a long time, so we are all the more delighted that the transfer has now gone through,” his new employer happily announced on social media.
Büyükarslan began his career at Sportfreunde 1918 Altenessen. He then played for several youth teams at Borussia Dortmund and Rot-Weiss Essen. From Hafenstraße, he moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2022. From then on, the left winger played for the U23s in the Regionalliga West before joining FC Schalke 04 II for the second half of the 2024/25 season.

“I know Oguzcan from his youth days at Rot-Weiss Essen and later from our direct duels against Gladbach’s U23s. Thanks to his quality in one-on-one situations and his speed, he is capable of both scoring and setting up goals. Bojan, on the other hand, is an absolute finisher who has his greatest strength in the penalty area. He scored a lot of goals for Meerbusch in the first half of the season and is coming to us with confidence. With the support of our striker coach Martin Max and our experienced attackers Lasogga and Deville, he can take the next step in his development with us,” commented his then coach Jakob Fimpel on the transfer.
In the summer of 2025, he returned to Borussia Mönchengladbach II, but was only a substitute there and scored one goal in 13 games. Overall, the left winger has played 81 Regionalliga West games in his career so far, scoring nine times and providing three assists. Now, the next scorers are set to join him in the SSVg Velbert jersey.
