TSV 1860 Munich have always sold out their stadium so far this season. This will be no different in the basement duel against MSV Duisburg.
In the 3rd division, the second half of the season begins with two relegation bangers. VfB Lübeck face Waldhof Mannheim and 1860 welcome MSV Duisburg for their first match after the winter break (Saturday, January 20, 4:30 p.m.).
And as always, the “Löwen” stadium will be sold out. 1860 are the only third division team to have always sold out. The stadium on Grünwalder Straße holds 15,000 spectators – and they have come to all eight games so far. An occupancy rate of 100 percent.
And that with the meagre yield. The Munich team had other goals than fighting relegation. Of the eight home games, 1860 only managed to win three.
Therefore, in addition to a new sporting director (Christian Werner), there was also a new coach for the second half of the season. Argirios Giannikis is the new head coach of TSV 1860 Munich. Giannikis was most recently on the sidelines at AEK Athens until his dismissal at the start of 2022.
“I’m really looking forward to the job and to getting to know the team, the staff and the fans. We have a lot of work ahead of us in the coming months. I am convinced that we will achieve our goals together.”
At the moment, the only goal is to stay in the league, where it seemed at the winter break that the four relegated teams would be played out among the last six. A win against MSV would be important at the start, but Duisburg have also set their sights high.
And it’s not just the team that is fired up for the rest of the season, the MSV fans can hardly wait for the 1860 game either. While an average of 634 supporters (data from liga3-online) have attended the away game so far, 900 Zebra fans will accompany the team to the south. And that despite the long journey. Duisburg were able to sell out the entire contingent of guests.
You can see what is at stake for the Zebras, who are currently in tenth place in the away attendance table. A record 1667 supporters attended the match at Viktoria Köln – compared to just 227 in Aue
