97 games for RWO – This ex-striker becomes Helmes’ assistant

After the new head coach Patrick Helmes, Sportfreunde Siegen have also introduced his new assistant. An ex-professional will act alongside Helmes.

Following the signing of head coach Patrick Helmes, Westphalian Oberliga club Sportfreunde Siegen have made further personnel changes and signed Lars Toborg (47) as a new assistant coach, thus completing the coaching team.

“Lars Toborg is an experienced football professional who has worked with many different coaches in his long career and has always strived for maximum success,” explains Siegen’s sporting director Ottmar Griffel and emphasises: “We are convinced that Lars Toborg will enrich our coaching team with his skills and experience and help us to achieve our current season’s goals. The fact that Lars Toborg is a football professional with an SFS past pleases us even more.”

Toborg signed a contract with Sportfreunde for the time being until the end of the current 2022/2023 season. A further long-term cooperation is not ruled out, but is already being planned. This was officially announced by the club.

Toborg, who played for clubs such as Ahlen, Oberhausen and also Siegen in his career, is looking forward to his new role alongside former international Helmes.

I’m really looking forward to Sportfreunde, to working with head coach Patrick Helmes, whom I know from our times together here at Sportfreunde, and I’m sure that at the end of the season we’ll be talking about a successful second half. It just feels good to be back here.”

Michel Harrer, who has been acting as playing co-coach to date, will from now on only be part of the playing squad.

On Tuesday, 10 January, Sportfreunde will play a short-notice test match against SV Rothemühle on the artificial pitch at the Leimbachstadion. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
