After the matches between England and Senegal and France and Poland, it is clear: Les Bleus and the Three Lions will face each other next in the quarter-finals. This was already the case at the World Cup in 1966 and 1982. The English won both years.

Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappé scored in France’s convincing 3-1 win over Poland in the last 16 in Doha. The AC Milan striker opened the scoring just before the break to become his country’s all-time leading scorer before Mbappé sealed the deal in the second half.

The young sensation scored two fantastic goals to take the lead in the race for the Golden Boot with five goals. Robert Lewandowski converted a late penalty to make it 3-1, but it wasn’t enough for the Poles.

France face England next after Gareth Southgate’s side beat Senegal 3-0.

The England vs Senegal match: After a relatively slow start to the game, Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson scored in the 38th minute.

Harry Kane restored England’s lead with his first goal of the tournament before Arsenal striker Bukayo Saka put the finishing touches on in the 57th minute.

England and France have met twice before in World Cups, with the Three Lions winning both in 1966 and 1982.

The match will be played on Saturday at 8pm.
