Third division club Rot-Weiss Essen has loaned out four players this summer. RevierSport has checked how the players have done in the first half of the year.
Rot-Weiss Essen has loaned out four young players for this season. Fabian Rüth, Nils Kaiser, Nico Haiduk and Timur Mehmet Kesim were to gain match practice in lower-class clubs. After the first half of the season, RevierSport took a look at whether this plan worked and how things are going for the four players at their new clubs.
Fabian Rüth (Rot-Weiß Koblenz, contract with RWE until 2024):
Fabian Rüth was loaned to Südwest-Regionalligist Rot-Weiß Koblenz on 31 August 2022 with the clear aim of gaining match practice and continually proving himself at a decent level. The 21-year-old only played three league games over 27 minutes for RWE in the promotion season – too few for the defensive player’s demands. The start in Koblenz was a success. On the second matchday, Rüth was already in the starting eleven against autumn champions SSV Ulm.
Then came the shock: Rüth had to be substituted in the 77th minute after seriously injuring his shoulder. Since then – the Ulm game was almost three months ago – he has not played a game. Although Rüth regularly visits his old colleagues and was recently on hand for Essen’s home game against SV Meppen (0-0), it currently looks as though Rot-Weiss Essen and Fabian Rüth will part ways for good in the summer, despite the fact that his contract is still running.
Nils Kaiser (SC Wiedenbrück, contract with RWE until 2024):
Nils Kaiser has had the most success at SC Wiedenbrück. The 20-year-old, who moved to Rot-Weiss Essen’s U19 in 2020, was loaned to SCW and made 13 competitive appearances (2 goals) in the first half of the year. Although the central midfielder was only part of coach Daniel Brinkmann’s starting eleven three times in the Regionalliga West and the Westfalenpokal, he is always a serious alternative for the 36-year-old.
In Wiedenbrück, they play aggressive, combative and passionate football. Kaiser is actually known as a technically skilled midfielder, but he has also made a leap forward physically. “Nils is a good boy and I also see his development as positive. He is on the right path,” Brinkmann already emphasised to RevierSport.
Nico Haiduk (ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen, contract with RWE until 2024):
Left-back Nico Haiduk has been loaned to cooperation partner ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen in the top division and is completing his first proper season in men’s football. Unfortunately, the 19-year-old has also been dogged by injury misfortune. After starting five times in a row for the third-placed team in the Oberliga and performing well, he was substituted at half-time for Rot-Weiss Essen in the test match against KAS Eupen (2:2) to prove himself against a strong opponent. There, however, he suffered a ligament injury and has been slowed down ever since. As a result, he also missed the spectacular cup duel against RWE (4:6 n.E.). It is not yet clear when he will return to the pitch.
ETB coach Damian Apfeld spoke to RevierSport about Nico Haiduk: “Since this test match, Nico has not played a single game for us and has not taken part in team training. He has been back in training for a short time, but we won’t take any risks. The last two games this year come too early for him. Nico has integrated very well after his transfer. He quickly moved into the starting eleven and did very, very well in his appearances. Nico has great dynamics, great ball handling and can make his mark offensively and defensively. His injury was extremely bitter for us and him. “
Timur Mehmet Kesim (SG Wattenscheid 09, contract with RWE until 2024):
When SG Wattenscheid 09 were urgently looking for a striker for the regional league adventure, those responsible contacted Rot-Weiss Essen and reached an agreement with the third-division club on a loan move for Timur Mehmet Kesim. The 19-year-old scored five times for RWE’s U19s last season and was even rewarded with two short appearances for the professionals.
However, because there is a lot of competition in the centre of attack with Simon Engelmann and Ron Berlinski, the brawny attacker was loaned out. The German-Turkish player only played seven competitive games for the SGW and was in the starting eleven three times. Kesim, who had to miss almost two months with a cruciate ligament strain, did not score a goal. He will have to improve considerably if he is to really help the Wattenscheiders in their mission to stay in the relegation zone. However, Kesim has not lost sight of his big goal. He wants to wear the RWE jersey again after the season. “I want to continue to gain a lot of experience at senior level and then return to Essen stronger than ever,” confirmed the youngster. The next few months will show whether that will happen.
