The modernisation of Preußen Münster’s stadium is moving forward. The city council has increased the budget for it to over 60 million euros.

Preußen Münster has gone into the winter break after a strong first half of the season. The eagle-bearers are running a lonely circle at the top of the table in the Regionalliga West and are heading for promotion. And with regard to the stadium renovation, there is also good news for Münster shortly before Christmas.

The city council has significantly increased the budget for the modernisation: from 40 to 60.2 million euros. “This finally paves the way towards a fully covered and completely modernised Preußenstadion,” said the SCP, pleased about this milestone.

In the coming years, the stadium on Hammer Straße is to be made suitable for the second division and will one day offer space for around 20,000 spectators. Among other things, several stands will be rebuilt for this purpose.

“This decision is another milestone in the implementation of this lighthouse project for the development of competitive sport in Münster and Münsterland. It is the result of what has now been a long period of trusting cooperation between all those involved in the club, the administration and politics,” said Preußen President Christoph Strässer, pleased with the council’s decision.

He emphasises: “We know that we are not there yet, there will still be a lot of work to do. But as of today we are sure: we will make it. After decades of discussion and many setbacks, SC Preußen will get a future-proof venue, and the city of Münster will get another attraction with charisma far beyond the city limits.” In addition, the order in which the construction work is to be carried out has been determined.
