RWE went into the short Christmas break with a 2-2 draw at Dutch second division side De Graafschap. After these, one player will probably no longer be there.

When Rot-Weiss Essen resume training after four days off – 24 to 27 December 2022 – one player who has trained with the team for the last three weeks will most likely be absent.

The player in question is Tobias Warschewski. The striker, who is currently without a club, was able to prove his qualities at Hafenstraße during the last three weeks. He certainly pleased those responsible, including a 40-metre dream goal against SC Paderborn (3:2). But in the end, he might not have been convincing enough to sign a contract with the third-division club.

RevierSport asked coach Christoph Dabrowski, who also used Warschewski for 45 minutes against de Graafschap (2:2) and who caused a penalty, about the future of the trial player. Dabrowski’s answer: “The de Graafschap game was not a match in which Tobias could make his mark. But it was also difficult for everyone. We now have to see whether it makes sense to bring him in. I don’t think it makes much sense at the moment. But we will talk about it again in peace.”

The 24-year-old Warschewski has been involved with RWE since 8 December. Dabrowski repeatedly emphasised that he would only bring in another striker if he could strengthen the team immediately. But with Luca Wollschläger, Ron Berlinski and Simon Engelmann, the Essen team already has three attackers who are currently in top shape. Everything seems to indicate that Warschewski is not the attacker they are looking for, who would immediately help Rot-Weiss Essen. Anything other than a rejection of the former Münster Prussian would be very surprising after the Dabrowski sentences.
