On Wednesday, some of MSV Duisburg’s and Rot-Weiss Essen’s rivals were in action. This is how the test matches of the third division teams went.

In preparation for the second half of the season, seven teams from the 3rd division played test matches this Wednesday.

SC Verl, in particular, achieved a respectable success. The East Westphalians defeated the Bundesliga team VfL Bochum 2:0 – and not undeservedly. Nicolas Sessa (45th) and Leon Bürger (108th) scored for Verl in the XL test, which ran over 120 minutes.

FSV Zwickau also enjoyed a victory against a higher-class opponent. The test at second division side 1. FC Magdeburg ended at 3:2. Dominic Baumann’s brace (14th, 21st) gave FSV a 2:0 lead at the break. After Malcolm Cacutalua scored the equaliser (49th), Johan Gomez increased the lead to 3:1 (83rd) in the final phase. Baris Atik brought Magdeburg back within a goal in the 87th minute.

Wiesbaden beat Mannheim

The hosts retained the upper hand in the third-division showdown between Wehen Wiesbaden and Waldhof Mannheim. SVWW, who are five points above SVW in the relegation places, won 2-0 with Kianz Froese (43rd) and Max Reinthaler (90th) scoring the goals. For Mannheim it was the second defeat in the second test.

Meanwhile, leaders SV Elversberg suffered a defeat abroad. At FC Metz from the French 2nd division, the SVE lost 1:2. Nick Woltemade had given the sensational team of the season so far the lead (43rd). But after the restart, Elversberg gave the game away (48th, 87th).

And FC Ingolstadt also went away empty-handed on Wednesday. The fourth-placed team lost 0:1 at second-division team 1. FC Heidenheim. Christian Kühlwetter sealed FCI’s defeat with a penalty kick. SV Meppen’s game against 1. FC Köln ended with the same result. Sargis Adamyan scored for the Bundesliga side (16th).
