149-time third division player may leave, talent too – Fortuna striker an issue

Sportclub Verl is currently working on getting some players to leave Poststraße. The squad is to be slimmed down.

Even before Christmas, Sebastian Lange, sporting director of SC Verl, emphasised that the East Westphalians wanted to reduce the size of their squad of around 30 men. RevierSport reported.

Cyrill Akono left Verl for third league rivals Borussia Dortmund II. The fact that he is leaving Poststraße was neither desired nor planned. “But that’s the way the business is. Cyrill really wanted to go to BVB and we didn’t want to put any obstacles in his way,” explains Lange. According to RS information from Dortmund, Verl collected a small six-figure sum as a transfer fee.

While Akono was one of the top performers, other players who have hardly played a sporting role so far are to leave the club. “We have suggested to Aaron Berzel that he look for a new club in the winter,” Lange reveals. The central defender, who has 149 Drittliga appearances in his career, has only made two appearances in the current series.

A talent who moved to Verl from SC Paderborn II last summer is about to sign for a West-Regionalligist. “If everything goes well, the transfer will be in the bag on Tuesday,” says Lange and adds: “Three to four more young players could then leave us. “

And who will come in as Akono’s replacement? “We are really very relaxed and conscientious about that. We will only bring in someone who will also make us stronger. We don’t have to get anyone either, only if it’s the right one. We still have plenty of time until the end of January,” Lange replies.

Fortuna Köln striker Lars Lokotsch has repeatedly been linked with SC Verl. He is definitely interesting, says Lange: “We have been following Lars’ path since his time at SV Rödinghausen. When he left Zwickau, we wanted him too. But he opted for Fortuna. Now he is still under contract there. There’s nothing more to say on the subject. “
