Kick-off euphoria, but now “a brutally difficult opponent” awaits

Rot Weiss Ahlen has made a successful start to the new season in the Regionalliga West. Now head coach Andreas Zimmermann’s team wants to go one better against Fortuna Köln.

Rot Weiss Ahlen has made a successful start to the new Regionalliga West season. On the first matchday, the team under head coach Andreas Zimmermann celebrated a 2:1 surprise win against Wuppertaler SV. In the upcoming match against the next top team, Fortuna Köln, the Ahleners now want to get the next three points.

Only very few people had Rot Weiss Ahlen on their radar before the start of the season. Against WSV, however, the Ahlen team showed that they can keep up with the big names in the league. RWA coach Zimmermann reviewed the opening game.

“It was nice that we got our horsepower on the pitch. You never know exactly how far you are already on the first matchday. In the preparation we also achieved sometimes more and sometimes less good results. That wasn’t ideal, but we worked harder on fine-tuning and you could see that against Wuppertal. If everything works out, we can beat any opponent,” said the coach.

Zimmermann sees Fortuna Cologne as “a brutally difficult opponent “

Despite the respectable win against Wuppertal, Rot Weiss Ahlen will also go into the upcoming match against Fortuna Köln as underdogs. RWA coach Zimmermann is well aware of this fact, but he still believes his team will get the next three points of the season against Cologne.

Fortuna Köln finished fifth in the league last season and thus fell short of their own expectations. The Cologne team also suffered a bitter 0:1 defeat on the first matchday against Lippstadt. Nevertheless, Zimmermann is well aware of the qualities of the upcoming opponents.

“Our credo for this season is that we want to go all out “

“Basically, we want to win every game. However, we also know that Fortuna Köln are a brutally difficult opponent. They may have lost narrowly to Lippstadt on the first day of the game, but they still had at least seven very good goal-scoring chances and shouldn’t have lost the game at all in my opinion. That’s just the way it is in football. What counts for us is that we want to play our game and then we’ll see at the end if something countable comes out of it,” explained Zimmermann.

He added: “Our credo for this season is that we want to go all out. There are good days and there are days that don’t go optimally, but we still want to stick to our strategy, take on the battles and win our games.
