Is Rouven Schröder about to move to RB Leipzig?

Rouven Schröder is on the verge of a new job in the Bundesliga, according to a report. The former Schalke sporting director is reportedly set to join RB Leipzig.

Max Eberl is starting to plan the future of RB Leipzig. The sporting director of the Saxons wants to quickly fill the vacant position of sporting director – and the choice seems to fall on Rouven Schröder. According to information from MDR, signing the 47-year-old is only a matter of time.

Schröder’s contract with FC Schalke 04 is currently on hold. In order to lure the squad planner, who played a decisive role in S04’s promotion, to Saxony, a transfer fee would be due. Schröder surprisingly resigned from Schalke at the end of October. “The decision to leave Schalke was anything but easy for me,” Schröder explained his Schalke exit. Concrete reasons for the resignation were not communicated. In the club’s statement, only “personal reasons” were cited. It was heard from the Schalke environment that Schröder was increasingly exhausted. Shortly after his departure, rumours of a move to Leipzig began to circulate.

Schröder was said to be Eberl’s preferred candidate. After Schröder’s departure from Borussia Mönchengladbach, Eberl is said to have suggested the former professional as a suitable successor.

There have been some changes at the management level of RB Leipzig recently. Oliver Mintzlaff has moved to Red Bull as the new boss. Christopher Vivell, previously technical director of the controversial football project, has moved to Chelsea FC in the Premier League. And Florian Scholz, the club’s commercial director, is likely to follow his former boss Mintzlaff to Red Bull, according to MDR. Gaps that Rouven Schröder is initially expected to fill.
