Profile set, talks to follow – This is the status of the search for a coach

SV Straelen is preparing for “mission impossible” – to stay in the regional league. At the same time, the league’s bottom team is looking for a new head coach.

Nine points after 20 games and eleven points behind the save shore: SV Straelen is also realistic, despite all its optimism.

“We believe in staying in the relegation zone and will give it everything we’ve got. But we are not so deluded that we don’t have the Oberliga scenario in the back of our minds,” sports director and interim coach Kevin Wolze told RevierSport.

Accordingly, those responsible are relaxed about the head coach search. “We’re not under any pressure and we’re giving ourselves time. It should be a man who is suitable for both leagues. We have now defined the profile and want to sign a coach, regardless of age, who stands for a philosophy and a style of play. And who, in the event of relegation, knows what is important in the Oberliga Niederrhein,” says Wolze.

According to the 32-year-old Wolze, there are three or four candidates. Talks are to be held with these candidates in the near future.

Today I can rule it out, but if we should win four games to start, then you never know what happens in football.

There is currently no question of Wolze becoming a permanent solution. Wolze: “The feedback from the team is positive regarding our training methods. But I will first take part in the B-licence course in March. It’s also important to get to know the theoretical side. Today I can rule it out, but if we were to win four games to start, you never know what will happen in football.”

At least in the test matches, things have looked good so far. There were two wins and a draw against the upper league teams TuRU Düsseldorf (3:1), TSV Meerbusch (1:1) and SC St. Tönis (2:1). On Tuesday, 24 January, the test against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen is to be made up.

The match will then take place in Straelen. “We are satisfied with the tests. All the players got a lot of playing time and we made a lot of substitutions. I hope that the RWO test will work out. That will be decided on Monday,” revealed Wolze.
