Golombek with plain speaking – “There are perhaps some players who can’t do better”.

Rot Weiss Ahlen is staggering towards the Oberliga Westfalen. Even under new coach Andreas Golombek, things are not going well for RWA.

Three games, three defeats and a goal difference of 6:10: Andreas Golombek had imagined his start as head coach of Rot Weiss Ahlen to be different.

After the recent 2:4 at 1. FC Bocholt, the football coach was still angry a day later. “You actually have to take the last six games into consideration. The team has lost six and conceded 20 goals. I think everyone should know where the shoe pinches,” Golombek told RevierSport and went on to say: “Some people don’t seem to get it that games are won at the back and not at the front.”

And Golombek went into a rage: “If I bring in Franck Ribery, I can’t play him as a centre-back. We simply have too many boys who play football and don’t want to work. So it’s going to be damn hard in the relegation battle.”

But the former professional is known for his ambition and he is far from giving up. Even if he already seems to have his doubts about some players.

We will fight to the last breath to stay in the league. Every player should appreciate the Regionalliga West and want to play here again next year

“We made a clear analysis after the Bocholt game and everyone saw where the mistakes were. I hope that everyone understood that too. But I’m also starting to worry that maybe there are some players who can’t do any better. In any case, we still have enough games and I’m happy to be proved wrong.”

As early as Tuesday evening (7pm), Rot Weiss Ahlen will face Wuppertaler SV in a make-up game. Even though WSV, who have won their last nine out of ten encounters, are the team of the moment in the league with Münster, the Ahleners do not want to admit defeat without a fight. “We will fight for class preservation until our last breath. Every player should appreciate the Regionalliga West and want to play here again next year,” stresses the 54-year-old Golombek.
