Fans and patrons of Eintracht Braunschweig have raised more than 650,000 euros in an eight-month crowdfunding campaign so that the Braunschweig venue can continue to be called Eintracht-Stadion.
“This is a project that is not only unprecedented in Braunschweig, but unique overall,” Eintracht managing director Wolfram Benz told the “Braunschweiger Zeitung” (Monday edition).
According to the club, a total of 2773 people bought share certificates of various categories since May 2022 in order to secure the naming rights to the Eintracht stadium until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The alternative would have been to sell the naming rights to a sponsor, as is common practice at other clubs. The aim of the campaign was to collect 200,000 euros per year until 2025. In the end, a total of 652,421.85 euros was raised.
The crowdfunding campaign was organised by an action alliance comprising the outsourced professional football company, the club’s own fan department, the Ultra scene, the fan project and Eintracht’s fan council. The stadium of the 1967 German champions had to be sold to the city in the 1980s for financial reasons. In 2008, five companies bought the naming rights to be able to rename it from “Städtisches Stadion an der Hamburger Straße” to Eintracht-Stadion. This contract expires in 2023.
