SC Verl has extended the contract of one of its key players. He only joined the third division club in the summer and established himself straight away.
Things are going well at SC Verl. The East Westphalians have lost only one of their last seven games and took a big step towards staying in the league with a 3-0 win at 1860 Munich at the weekend.
And away from the day-to-day business in the 3. Liga, the Sportclub also provided good news at the weekend. Left-back Michel Stöcker has extended his contract by one year until summer 2024. The 23-year-old came from Holstein Kiel II last summer and mastered the jump to the 3. Liga without any adjustment problems.
Born in Cologne, he missed only one game this season and immediately established himself as a regular. Stöcker made 16 of 21 appearances from the start, and the defender also contributed a goal and an assist. Stöcker comes from the youth teams of 1. FC Köln and Fortuna Düsseldorf. Before his one-year stint in Kiel, he spent three seasons in the Düsseldorf regional league reserve team.
“The development Michel has taken at Sportclub is further proof that the idea of improving players with potential at Sportclub works,” said a delighted Verl sporting director Sebastian Lange. “He can be used very flexibly in defence and his development is not over yet. We are very happy to continue on this path together. “
And probably in the 3rd division. Because with a ten-point lead over the first relegation place and solid performances of late, SCV is heading for its fourth third league season in a row.
