Rot-Weiss Essen have won three games after seven without a win. The good mood, which was threatening to collapse, is no longer being talked about. Comment.
A brief review: Exactly one week ago, on Monday, 13 February, after the 0:1 at Viktoria Köln, there was talk in the social media and fan forums about the current state of Rot-Weiss Essen and also about the (non)performances of some players. Once again, coach Christoph Dabrowski was targeted by some RWE fans. The atmosphere and the euphoria about promotion, which still existed – see also the attendance figures – threatened to topple.
One week later, there is no longer any talk of all that. Thanks to a good performance and three points against Borussia Dortmund II (2:0), the threatening storm on Hafenstraße was simply blown away.
Jörn Nowak, Marcus Uhlig and all the other RWE managers were of course aware of the criticism after the Cologne game and also discussed it internally – but: All this took place in a factual, not at all emotional framework. Uhlig had also spoken to RevierSport and called the team to account before the BVB II game.
The reward followed – in the form of a good performance and three points. Patience and continuity, also in the coaching position, are simply rewarded on the road. Uhlig and Co. know that too.
Rot-Weiss Essen: Christoph Dabrowski is doing a good job
And once again to the fans who criticise Dabrowski after every defeat, even after a few draws: Rot-Weiss Essen fought for a long time for this football coach, who also had offers from the 2nd Bundesliga. Not for nothing was the 44-year-old given a contract until 30 June 2024.
The reason is obvious: RWE trusts the coach and believes in him. He should manage to keep the team in the league in his first season and then take the next developmental step with RWE. Dabrowski and his charges are on course to achieve goal one and are currently seven points clear of a relegation place.
The 273-time Bundesliga player and 103-time second division kicker cannot be a “blind man”. Dabrowski’s critics should also finally realise that the RWE coach is doing a good job and is the right man for Hafenstraße.
