During VfL Bochum’s defeat against SC Freiburg, VfL captain Anthony Losilla saw the red card. That’s how long he was suspended.

Anthony Losilla experienced an inglorious premiere last weekend. The VfL Bochum captain was sent off with a red card in the 0:2 home defeat against SC Freiburg. It was the first direct sending-off for the 36-year-old in his 298 appearances for the Revierklub.

In the meantime, it is also known how long Losilla will have to watch. The Frenchman has been banned for two games, the German Football Association (DFB) announced on Monday afternoon. The club and the player have already agreed to the sentence, which is now legally binding.

Losilla will therefore miss the away match at Werder Bremen next Saturday – and also the important derby against FC Schalke 04. The Königsblauen come to the Ruhrstadion on Saturday, 4 March, for a basement duel.

And for the Bochum team, it will probably feel unusual to be without their captain. Since VfL was promoted to the Bundesliga in the summer of 2021, Losilla has missed only one game. In the current season, the midfielder has always been in the starting eleven and has usually played for the full duration.

During his time in Bochum, which began in 2014, Losilla saw yellow red three times. The veteran received his first red on Saturday for a foul on Freiburg’s Nicolas Höfler. He had put the ball too far forward and then unintentionally hit Höhler on the shin with his open sole. “I think it’s a tough decision, but not a bad one,” said coach Thomas Letsch after the final whistle.
