No new contract – He must leave BVB in the summer

Borussia Dortmund is facing the next upheaval in the summer. The first departure has now been announced. This was confirmed by sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud will not receive a new contract offer from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. The 27-year-old, who is still tied to BVB until the summer, will therefore have to find a new club for the coming season.

“I had a very open and honest conversation with Mo last week. I told him that we will not extend his contract in the summer,” BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl told Bild on Monday.

Dahoud moved to Dortmund from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2017 and has played 137 competitive games for the Black and Yellows. He made his debut for the German national team in October 2020 and made two friendly appearances under Joachim Löw. This season, he hardly made an appearance under coach Edin Terzic, also due to a shoulder injury. Terzic used him five times in the Bundesliga and once in the DFB Cup.

Most recently, Dahoud was substituted against Freiburg and Bremen. In the 4:1 home win last weekend, he sat on the bench for 90 minutes. “Mo has been with us for six years now, he is a very good footballer, and I really have a very high opinion of him, both athletically and as a person. Nevertheless, we decided to take this step,” Kehl explained. The industry portal Transfermarkt.de currently puts Dahoud’s market value at €18 million.

There was no new status for BVB captain Marco Reus (33) and centre-back Mats Hummels (34), whose contracts also expire at the end of this season. “We are in an open and honest exchange with each other,” said Kehl.
