Bruno Soares’ emotional return: “MSV Duisburg is my favourite club”.

With SV Meppen, Bruno Soares returned to his old living room after ten years on Saturday and snatched a point from his former club, MSV Duisburg (0:0).

It was 21 May 2011 when MSV Duisburg travelled to the DFB Cup final in Berlin as an established second-division team. Despite the 5-0 defeat against FC Schalke 04, MSV was properly celebrated at the time. Meiderich 2023 can only dream of successes like that.

Bruno Soares was one of the key players in Milan Sasic’s team at the time. He wore the white and blue jersey from 2009 to 2012, before the Brazilian moved on to SV Meppen in January via Fortuna Düsseldorf and numerous stations abroad. Soares, now 34 years old, is expected to help Stefan Krämer’s team stay in the 3rd division.

At his former club, of all places, the centre-back celebrated his debut for the Emslanders after a break due to injury and collected an important point in the relegation battle at the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena. The applause among the 10,446 spectators in the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena could be heard when the defender’s name appeared on the scoreboard.

Soares got 25 tickets for family and friends

And Soares shone with a solid performance, keeping the shop of the second-bottom team largely tight and bringing the Duisburg attack, which had been too harmless at the weekend, to the brink of despair at times. “We are happy about the point,” said the former MSV crowd favourite, who enjoyed the return to his old stomping ground.

Soares had bought 25 tickets for family and friends and shook countless hands with old acquaintances before and after the game. “It was a very emotional game for me. It felt very good. MSV continues to be my favourite club. I am very grateful to them. But it is my job. We did the job very well as a team. “
