Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund continued their winning streak against RB Leipzig (2:1). Captain Marco Reus opened the evening with his opening goal.

Borussia Dortmund celebrated its tenth competitive match victory in a row on Friday evening. At the sold-out Signal-Iduna-Park with 81,365 spectators, BVB defeated its direct rival RB Leipzig 2-1 (2-0) – in an intense, competitive match – and moved to the top of the Bundesliga table, at least for one night. Record champions Bayern Munich could knock Borussia out of first place again with a win at VfB Stuttgart on Saturday evening.

But of course nobody wanted to think about that after the final whistle, when chants of “Spitzenreiter, Spitzenreiter” echoed through the stadium. Marco Reus, who gave his team the lead in the 21st minute with a penalty, was in a correspondingly good mood. With his 159th goal in the BVB jersey, the captain is now on a par with club legend Michael Zorc.

In the DAZN interview after the final whistle, the 33-year-old was delighted with the three-goal win, but also saw room for improvement: “To be honest, I didn’t like the way we played. In the second half, we hardly kept the ball and had few solutions in the opponent’s half. That was much better in the first half. You have to say that Leipzig did really well. But of course we are very happy about the tenth win in a row. In the end, of course, I’d rather win than play well but lose. Our big wish was to regain the lead in the standings, to put pressure on them and to increase the gap to Leipzig. We managed to do that.”

For the Dortmund captain, the goal to make it 1-0 in the interim was his fourth goal of the season in his 15th outing. Reus has been under contract with BVB since 2012. His contract expires at the end of the season. When DAZN reporter Max Siebald asked the offensive player about his future (“Can you even imagine that this feeling won’t exist for you next year?”), Reus replied:

“Boah, now you’re going from situation to situation. No, of course. I hope not. Sorry, I was just … now you got me completely.”

After that, the interview ended. The captain avoided making a clear statement. Means: Marco Reus’ future is still open.
