Not Grammozis – Arminia Bielefeld introduces new coach

Arminia Bielefeld have found the coach to prevent their double relegation from the Bundesliga to the 3rd division.

Things are very tight in the bottom of the 2nd Bundesliga. Arminia Bielefeld is right in the middle. After their relegation from the Bundesliga last summer, nobody at Arminia thought that they would have to face relegation again.

Now the scenario is a reality, with Arminia eleven matchdays from the end of the season in the relegation place – one point behind the first non-relegation place.

For this reason, Bielefeld suspended coach Daniel Scherning after the 3-3 draw with Eintracht Braunschweig. At first, there were rumours that Dimitrios Grammozis would become the new coach after he terminated his contract with FC Schalke.

But on Thursday, the traditional club presented Uwe Koschinat as its new coach. The 51-year-old football coach will already lead the first training session on Thursday and will sit on the bench for the home match on Saturday (11 March, 1pm) against SV Darmstadt 98.

“The management and supervisory board have internally drawn up a clear profile of requirements for our new head coach,” explained managing director Christoph Wortmann. “Uwe Koschinat has our full confidence to lead our team to direct class preservation in the 2nd Bundesliga with the support of all Arminen. In our talks, he showed convincingly and very passionately that he will give full throttle for our club here with the team and his entire squad. We will support him and the team with all our might on the way to staying in the league.”

Koschinat, who most recently coached 1. FC Saarbrücken in the 3. Liga, said after his signing: “I would like to thank the Arminia officials for the trust they have placed in me and I am absolutely convinced that we can all do it together. The anticipation is huge for me. For me, Arminia Bielefeld is a club with great charisma that means a lot to the people in the city and the region. Of course, we have a lot of work ahead of us. That’s why it will be all the more important to tackle things with conviction and confidence and to unite all the fans and supporters in order to be successful. “
