BVB U23: This is why the match against 1860 Munich could be postponed

Borussia Dortmund’s U23s will be playing at 1860 Munich this weekend. The match could possibly be postponed.

The relief was great at Borussia Dortmund’s U23: After three defeats in a row, BVB shot the frustration out of their series with a 4-0 win over FSV Zwickau on Sunday and jumped to a non-relegation spot.

The series continues with the difficult away game at 1860 Munich next Sunday (1pm, RS-Liveticker) – assuming the match takes place. That is highly likely, but not set in stone.

The background to this is the appointment of 1860 youngsters Leandro Morgalla and Marius Wörl to the squad of the German U19 national team for the upcoming European Championship qualifiers. While Morgalla is sure to be part of the squad, Wörl was nominated on call-up.

As the 3rd division, unlike the first two professional leagues, does not have an international break, the DFB grants clubs the right to claim match postponements if they have to do without national team players. “A club that has to release a player has the right to request the postponement of a match scheduled for him,” reads paragraph 34 of the match regulations.

And as reported by the “tz”, the Munich club intend to make use of this right should Wörl still travel to the national team for the DFB talents’ match against Italy on Wednesday.

After all, the Munich team would then have to do without a second regular player besides Morgalla. Wörl has played the last three games over the full distance. In the 3:1 against Aue at the weekend – 1860’s first win in almost two months – the 18-year-old midfielder set up a goal. Meanwhile, the also 18-year-old Morgalla is set in the Löwen’s central defence.
