Sporting director Burhan Mala nevertheless wants to see the positive things in the match: “Some players got their assignments who normally don’t play. The boys never gave up despite the heavy defeat. “
In a mixed preparation, Barisspor only managed one win in four test matches. Two weeks before the start of the season, the Essen team is still struggling with a number of problems. “We are missing a lot of regulars at the moment. Some players are still on holiday, but we also have many injured boys. That makes conditions more difficult, of course. I am confident that we will be able to play successfully in the district league this year,” explains Mala.
For that, his team has to work on its deficits in the next few weeks: “Before the season starts, we definitely have to increase our fitness. Apart from that, I am already very satisfied. The boys are disciplined and calm. We have a lot of young players in the squad who still have to develop and learn a lot. Still, I’m optimistic that we’ll be in good shape by the start of the season.” Once all the players are back in training, tactical fine-tuning will also be worked on.
Even though the preparation has not gone according to plan so far, Barisspor is confident about the upcoming season: “Of course we want to play a successful season first. We take the results as they come. If we end up on top, we’ll be happy to take that with us. If we’re in midfield, that’s okay, too. But I think the team can play a good role, the quality is there,” says the 40-year-old confidently.
Despite the current personnel situation, Mala does not see any acute need for action: “Our squad is fixed, we have every position well filled. Even if we don’t have some players available at the moment, we will be complete by the season and won’t need any more reinforcements. “
