Leo Scienza, who was under contract with Schalke’s U23s until last summer, is currently playing no role with the professionals of 1. FC Magdeburg. Now he scored for the second team.

First, however, the 24-year-old has to take a diversion. He was dropped from the second division team a few weeks ago until further notice – the reason for this, according to the club, being indiscipline – and is supposed to offer himself again via the Magdeburg second team.

That is exactly what Scienza did last weekend: The Brazilian with a Luxembourg passport was in the starting eleven in the U23’s match against SV Dessau 05 – and needed only six minutes to put his team in the lead. With that, Scienza laid the foundation for a 2:0 victory. The attacking player was substituted in the final phase.

“We started the game very well and got the lead early on. We tried to spread out the playing time a bit and also used some A-youth players,” coach Pascal Ibold told club media afterwards, handing out special praise to Scienza: “In addition, Leo Scienza was able to play 78 minutes and showed a committed, good performance. “

It is uncertain to what extent the ex-Schalker influenced his prospects in the professional team with his performance. Second division coach Christian Titz only sporadically relied on the fast technician. Scienza has made eleven appearances so far, playing a total of 222 minutes.

On his Verbandsliga debut, Scienza played alongside another old acquaintance from the Regionalliga West. Tim Stappmann, who moved to the FCM from Rot-Weiß Oberhausen last summer, regularly plays for Magdeburg’s U23 in the sixth division. The central defender is still without a competitive game for the professionals.
