These are the most interesting numbers before the kick-off

This weekend, the Oberliga Niederrhein kicks off the new season. We have compiled the most interesting facts, figures and records for the 2022/23 season.

Oldest/youngest squad

With an average age of 25.8 years, 1. FC Kleve and 1. FC Monheim have the oldest squads of the new season. They are followed by Sportfreunde Baumberg and SSVg Velbert 02 with an average age of 25.3 years. FC Kray has the youngest squad this year. With an average age of 22.2 years, the Essen team is only just below Cronenberger SC (22.3 years). In the entire Oberliga Niederrhein, the players are 24.7 years old on average.

Experience in the Oberliga

Not only does 1. FC Monheim have the oldest squad, they also have the most experience. With 2074 appearances, the Monheim side have only played 23 more games than the players of Sportfreunde Baumberg, the city rivals of coach Dennis Ruess’ team. Unsurprisingly, the players of promoted MSV Düsseldorf (287 appearances) and SV Sonsbeck (272 appearances) have the least Oberliga experience.

Record goalscorers

The record goal scorer in the Oberliga Niederrhein is Danny Rankl. With 167 goals, the 1. FC Kleve centre forward is ahead of Andre Trienenjost (145 goals), who has already ended his Oberliga career. Robin Hömig scored 103 goals exclusively for Sportfreunde Baumberg during his career in the Oberliga. No one has scored more often for a single club so far.

Record Player

With 277 games, Stefan Schaumburg is the player with the most appearances in the Oberliga Niederrhein. The midfielder ended his career in the summer, having previously played for VfB Hilden for eight years. Close behind is record scorer Danny Rankl with 272 games. He is expected to dethrone Schaumburg in the course of the coming season. Loius Klotz played 259 games for Sportfreunde Baumberg without playing a single match for another team in the Oberliga. So far, no one has been able to beat this mark.

Faithful Players

The most loyal player of the Oberliga Niederrhein is Massimo Mondello. Hailing from our own U19s, the full-back is entering his fourteenth season with SSVg Velbert 02. In second place are the aforementioned Louis Klotz and Pascal Weber (VfB Hilden), who have been loyal to their club for 13 years

Eternal table

The perpetual table of the Oberliga Niederrhein is headed by TuRU Düsseldorf. With 599 points, the Düsseldorfers are a full 13 points ahead of Germania Ratingen 04/19. The two teams have been consistently in the Oberliga Niederrhein with 371 games each since the restructuring in 2012. Third-placed TV Jahn Hiesfeld voluntarily withdrew to the Bezirksliga at the end of last season.
